Hello Madeira friends!
Wow, has it really been over three years since our last news update?? And what a three years it's been, too. We hope you've all weathered the pandemic OK and are doing well. We're very happy to tell you that there is finally some activity in the Madeira camp!
First, we have a show coming up! Only our second since December of 2019 and the first since September of 2021 (when we played the Makahiki fest in Indianapolis, with Jonpaul Balak filling in for Todd). We will be back to one of our very favorite venues, Tip Top Deluxe in Grand Rapids, MI, on Saturday, November 5th - in just three weeks! This show is connected to the Atomic Tiki Bazaar at Max's South Seas Hideaway the next day, and it'll be an afternoon show, with the doors at Noon, Little Frank at 1 pm, The Moonrays at 2 pm, and us at 4 pm. This is our only planned show at this point, so we hope we get to see quite a few of you there!
Second, in case you missed it - we have a new song out! It is the cover of the Shadows' 1961 hit "The Frightened City", featured on the recently released reissue of the classic 1997 Shadows tribute "An Evening in Nivram" on MuSick Recordings. This digipak CD features 23 tracks, 13 of which are newly recorded by artists such as Danny Amis (Los Straitjackets), Insect Surfers, The Boss Martians, Wave Electric, Draculina, Martin Cilia (The Atlantics), and more. There are also previously unreleased tracks by the Space Cossacks (from '99), and the Troubadours (from '02), featuring Ivan and Dane, as well as a new track (download bonus only) by Lords of Atlantis, also featuring Ivan and Dane with Jeremy DeHart of the Manakooras and Aqualads! The CD comes with extensive, updated liner notes by Ivan (who also wrote the original ones). Finally, in another tie-in to Grand Rapids, MI, our version of "The Frightened City" was recorded at the Goon Lagoon Studios by Tommy Schichtel of the Concussions. You can purchase the CD or the download here:
That's it for now. We hope it won't be another three years before the next update! And we very much hope to see a bunch of you in Grand Rapids on Saturday, November 5th (the Guy Fawkes' Day)!
